
MAXWELL — Lowly CMB roared out of the gate to grab a 19-6 lead to spark a 66-49 win over Woodward-Granger in boys non-conference play Thursday. The win lifted the Raiders to 5-15 overall while the Hawks fell to 9-12.
The hosts held a 36-19 halftime lead, then entered the final frame with a 53-37 advantage. While CMB shot 24-of-44 (55 percent) from the floor, W-G hit just 15-of-51 shots (29 percent). The Raiders were 11-of-19 at the foul line in the game, with W-G 15-of-21.
Spencer Hanson led W-G with 11 points, with Reese Jamison adding 10 and Bryce Achenbach seven. Brady Aunspach tallied six points, Marcus McConahay and Bodie Harrison five apiece, Brody Easter three and Cameron Hoyt two.
Achenbach added six rebounds, five assists and four steals to his stat line, with Hanson clearing five boards while Jamison provided four assists.
Will Clapper’s 25 points and 10 rebounds paced CMB, with Ian Thomsen scoring 12 points, Brayden Aker nine and Cole Damman eight to aid the winning cause.
W-G will open Class 2A Substate 7 play with a visit to Interstate-35 Monday. The game will start shortly after the conclusion of the 6:30 p.m. game featuring Clarke against Woodward Academy. The W-G/I-35 victor will travel to Van Meter Thursday, where they will face Central Decatur in a 6:30 p.m. game.
