
LEON — The Woodward-Granger boys did something extraordinarily rare Monday by compiling over 200 team points in a track meet with at least six teams competing, winning the Central Decatur coed with 206 points.
Clarke had 123 points, and that normally strong effort still left the Indians 83 points from first place. Central Decatur was third at 114, with Southeast Warren (75), Lenox (73) and Centerville (9) also in action.
Mt. Ayr won the girls side with a quite high total as well, finishing with 191 points. W-G was second at 102, with Central Decatur (92), Creston (63), SE Warren (56), Lenox (50) and Centerville (12) following.
The Hawk boys won five individual races, two field events and three relays to help amass their point total.
Chandler Cavanaugh and Brendan Bird were 1-2 in the 100 in 12.12 and 12.23 second, respectively, with Cavanaugh and Bryce Achenbach 1-3 in the 400, in 53.87 and 55.59 while Marcus McConahay was third in the 200 in 25.32.
Jack Grell (5 minutes, 18.05 seconds) and Kaya Bowlsby (5:29.88) were 1-2 in the 1600, Alex Bice (12:09.92) and Dylan Steele (13:03.63) 1-3 in the 3200 and Ian Thompson (2:17.01) and Pacey Moats (2:21.68) 3-4 in the 800.
Payton Tague and Nick Moser placed 204 in the 110 high hurdles in 17.49 and 20.87, with Tague and J.P. Nixon crossing 1-5 in the 400 low hurdles in 1:00.29 and 1:06.26.
Achenbach, Thompson, Cavanaugh and Josh Saak won the 4×400 (3:41.14), Achenback, Saak, Thompson and Grell won the 4×800 (9:24.61) and Bird, Saak, Cavanaugh and McConahay the sprint medley (1:41.35) while Tague, Nixon, Moser and Moats finished second in the shuttle hurdle (1:08.72).
Nixon, Bowlsby, Reese Jamison and Jay Dorenkamp were second, in 4:07.32, in the distance medley, with Thompson, Saak, McConahay and Jamison third in the 4×200 (1:39.84) while Bird, McConahay, Saak and Tague placed fourth in the 4×100 (47.5).
Brody Easter won the shot put at 37 feet, 3-3/4 and the discus at 124’4, with Logan Canova third in the former at 35’0-1/2 and Bird fourth in the latter at 121’9. Cale Pritchett cleared 5’6 to finish second in the high jump, with Achenbach fifth in the long jump (17’11).
Emma Buckman won the girls discus for W-G with a spin of 97’9 and finished fourth in the shot put at 29’10, with a height of 4’6 placing Natalie Helbling fourth in the high jump.
Emma Drake won the 800 in 2:30.13, with Anna Tague second in the 400 in 1:07.73 while Regan Kaufman finished fourth in the 3000 in 14:37.01. Kaitlyn Peters and Helbling were 2-6 in the 1500 in 5:38.14 and 6:15.36, with Chloe and Savannah David 4-5 in, 1:18.46 and 1:21.87 in the 400 hurdles while Maddi Danti was fifth (20.3) and Savannah David sixth (20.6) in the 100 hurdles.
Drake, Tague, Helbling and Peters won the 4×800 in 10:44.59, with Drake, Tague, Peters and Mae Anderson second in the 4×400 (4:35.46) and Drake, Tague, Anderson and Chloe David second in the sprint medley (2:03.59).
The foursome of Anderson, Riley Jamison, Alyssa Bice and Quinn Kaufman was third, in 5:10.09, with the 4×100 unit of Kaitlyn Bandstra, Bice, Chloe David and Quinn Kaufman fourth (1:00.12), as was the 4×200 foursome of Bandstra, Bice, Anderson and Quinn Kaufman (2:04.2).
