CARLISLE — The Perry baseball team totaled one run on nine hits in losses of 3-1 to host Carlisle Monday and of 6-0 at Knoxville Friday.

Fifth-ranked Carlisle (19-5, 9-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth frame, more than enough to claim victory in the Raccoon River Conference meeting. A hit batsman and consecutive walks loaded the bases, with consecutive singles and a run-scoring ground out doing the damage.

That was the only real danger Perry starter Alexis Garrido faced. He scattered six hits in only just three runs in six frames to a strong Wildcat offense. Garrido issued four walks and hit two batters — all three runs were off free passes — while striking out one.

The Perry offense provided no support, with singles from Kyle Nevitt, Adan Medina, Austin Carpenter and Aaron Lockwood — along with three bases on balls — the only Bluejay base runners.

Nic McCay struck out 14 and allowed only one unearned run in recording the win.

Perry (5-16, 4-7) moved the scoreboard in the sixth, which began when Medina hustled to first on a dropped third strike. He stole second base, moved up on a throwing error and eventually crossed the dish on a passed ball.

Medina’s run was more than Perry could muster Friday in a non-conference trip to Knoxville (18-5).

The Panthers went to work early, scoring three times in the first inning. All three runs were unearned, as were both runs the hosts plated in the fourth after two more Bluejay miscues. The hosts then added a run in the sixth to complete the scoring.

Nevitt walked seven batters but allowed only five hits in 5-2/3 innings while striking out eight. He surrendered six runs, five of them unearned, with Medina throwing two pitches to induce a pop out and finish the sixth inning.

Medina had two singles, with Brandon Kenyon, Janier Puente and Garrido also recording hits. Lockwood drew two walks and Carpenter one.

Cameron Liston tossed 6-2/3 innings for Knoxville, striking out six and walking three while allowing five hits. Bailey Carter pitched for the final out.

Perry will host Bondurant-Farrar Wednesday at Progressive Field. A social-media led movement is underway to attract as many former players under Perry head coach Mike Long as possible to attend the game and support the team while saluting their former skipper, now in his 40th year as head coach, all at Perry.

Four of Perry’s five final regular season games are on the road, with a Monday contest against Grinnell the only other action at Progressive Field this year.
