PANORA — Visiting Eagle Grove rallied from a 14-12 halftime deficit to capture a 29-14 Class 1A District 6 win over Panorama Friday.

The Eagles (4-2, 2-2) allowed the Panthers (3-3, 1-3) a 270-161 advantage in passing yards but completely controlled the game on the ground, finishing with 305 yards rushing while allowing a paltry 31 yards on 22 carries.

Nikolas Padilla scored on a three-yard run for a 6-0 Eagle Grove lead in the first quarter, with Ryan Smith racing 71 yards with a pass from Brayden Lyman in the second period to give the guests a 12-0 advantage.

Panorama answered when Luke South hit Tanner Godfrey for a 10-yard touchdown. South found Spencer Hunt later in the quarter for a 34-yard scoring play, with Godfrey running in the two-point conversion as the hosts took a 14-12 lead into the intermission.

The guests recorded a safety for the only points of the third quarter, sending the teams into the final 12 minutes locked at 14-all.

The visitors dominated the fourth quarter, with Padilla scoring on a 35-yard Lyman pass. Lyman’s two-point conversion made it 22-14, with a 50-yard Lyman run and Nicolas Lentz PAT boot minutes later setting the score at 29-14, where it remained.

South finished 17-28-2 for 270 yards and two scores through the air. Blaine Barber (8-126), Hunt (2-72, 1 TD), Conner Meinecke (4-25), Gunnar Grunsted (1-24) and Godfrey (2-23, 1 TD) all caught passes.

Barber’s 15 yards on five carries and 10 from Grunsted on four rushes were the best the Panther ground game could produce.

Grunsted led the defense with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery. Trey Cobb had 10 stops and Barber 6.5, with Daniel Jensen recording five tackles, including a sack and another for negative yardage.

Lyman connected on just 4-of-7 passes but totaled 161 yards and two scores. Smith (2-101, 1 TD), Padilla (1-35, 1 TD) and Evan Anderson (1-25) were the receivers.

Anderson ran 24 times for 114 yards and Lyman 15 times for 113 yards and a score while Padilla carried the ball 19 times for 75 yards and a TD.

Padilla returned an interception 25 yards and Lyman brought a pick back 17 yards to spark the Eagle defense.

Panorama travels to Manson to face NW Webster Friday. The Cougars (3-3, 2-2), fell, 56-0, at No. 4 Van Meter last Friday.
