PANORA — The statistics entering Tuesday’s WCC baseball game between host Panorama and W-G pointed to a lopsided win for the guests. The winless Panthers had yielded 62 runs while scoring just four in seven games while the Hawks held a 99-29 edge over 10 contests.
An old cliche says “Figures lie and liars figure.”
Perhaps, but not in this case, as 10 runs in their first at-bat helped send W-G to a 16-1 win in four innings of play.
W-G added four runs in the second and two in the third, with Panorama scoring their sole run in the bottom of the first.
Ryan Renshaw tossed four frames for W-G, yielding a run on five hits while striking out three.
The Hawks belted 12 hits, with Brady Aunspach, Jackson Larson, Tre Loge and Austin Scharlau all recording two hits. One of Scharlau’s hits was a double, with Race Brant adding a double. Aunspach and Scharlau had three RBIs apiece, with Loge driving in two runs. The team drew five walks and stole 11 bases.
W-G will host Iowa Christian Academy tonight, then entertain Earlham Thursday before receiving taking a well-needed rest, as they will not return to action until a trip to Guthrie Center Monday.
