- A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and “reported an attempted break in.” An officer responded and found “no indications that someone tried to open the window and cracked it.”
- A caller “reported vandalism to a tow truck.” An officer responded and learned the drive shaft on the vehicle “had been cut in half within the last two weeks.”
- A caller said “sometime over the last two weeks, an unknown person or persons entered the garage, causing damage to the walk-in door,” and “once inside they also spray painted on the walls and floor.” An officer responded.
- A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded.
- A caller said he and his wife sold an item on Craigslist and “received a check in the mail that had an amount about four times more than what they were asking for.” The caller said he “called back the company on the check and asked about the person whose name was on it.” The caller said he was told “that the individual had retired in February, and that account is closed.” An officer responded.
- A caller said he lost his keys.
- A caller said she received a telephone call “and was told she won a trip.” The caller said “she Googled the info” and determined the call was a scam, “and all the information had been false.”
- A caller from a local pharmacy said she “was told to give a prescription to” someone. The caller said she delivered the item “to a male who signed off for it. She later found out she went to the wrong apartments and is afraid the person who signed for the prescription won’t give it back to her.” An officer responded, made contact with the misdelivered man and “assisted in getting back the prescription.”
- A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said he found something. An officer responded.
- Bruce Allen Duff, 55, 1003 Lucinda St., #3, Perry, was arrested on a charge of second-offense OWI.
- A caller said “several trucks had driven on the grass on the east side of the back parking lot of the Perry Elementary School and wrecked the grass.” An officer responded.
- A caller said “there was a possible break in going on.” An officer responded and determined “everything was fine.”
- A caller from the Boone County Sheriff’s office said “they had a gas drive off from the Ogden gas station” by someone believed to be from Perry. The caller said the person “left a video camera as collateral,” but “they haven’t heard back.” An officer responded and made contact with “mom and dad, who advised they would contact” the gas station “about the matter.”
- A 911 caller said his phone was stolen. The caller was advised to call back on the non-emergency telephone number and was given the number, but the “person did not call back.”
- A caller said “the back porch was on fire,” but “during the call she advised they had put out the fire.” An officer responded, and the Perry Volunteer Fire Department was paged.
- A caller said “he needed to go to jail or maybe a hospital” because “he was drunk and felt like beating someone up.” The caller said “his ex-girlfriend and their daughter had just left him.” The caller said “he was not suicidal and had no weapons and had not done any drugs other than alcohol.” A second call was received from the mother of the ex-girlfriend, who said “her daughter had just left the residence with her child” because the male half was “smashing things around the apartment with a baseball bat.” The mother said “she did not know if her daughter was hurt at the time.” Officers responded, and the angry man “went willingly” to the Dallas County Hospital for evaluation.
- A caller said someone was “calling her and sending threatening messages.” An officer responded, made contact with the threatening person and informed “him harassment charges could be filed” if “he had any further contact with” the caller.
October 21, 2017
- A caller said “he witnessed a possible drug deal while he was taking his dog outside.” Officers responded but did not find the vehicles described.
- Tiara Dawn Stanek, 24, 1306 Second St., #1, Perry, was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of prescription drugs and on a Dallas County warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of lottery ticket forgery/theft.
- A caller said someone was “banging on her garage door.” The caller said “she saw the woman and the light pointing at her shed and yelled she was going to call the police,” and “the woman ran off.” Officers responded and advised the caller “if she comes back, to call right away and not to confront her.”
- A caller “with Boys Town” said someone “has been texting and calling them, advising she was going to harm herself.” Officers responded.
- A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and “requested to speak with an officer regarding identity theft that occurred to her.” An officer responded.
- A caller asked whether “an officer could stand by as she is getting her sister’s belongings who passed away on Thursday.” An officer responded and stood by.
- A caller said his dog was lost. A second caller said he caught a dog running at large. The dog matched the description of the lost dog, and the first caller was notified of the whereabouts of his dog.
- Kirsten Leigh Palmer, 23, 708 1/2 Fourth St., Perry, was arrested by the Grimes Police Department on a Perry warrant on a charge of unauthorized use of a credit card. An officer of the Perry Police Department responded and transported Palmer to the Dallas County Jail.
- A caller said “his ex-wife is outside his house” and is “upset because he has a new girlfriend.” An officer responded.
- A caller “complained of a loud party.” An officer responded, made contact with the partiers and “asked them to turn the music down. They complied.”
- A caller reported “a black dog chasing kids.” An officer responded but did not find the dog or kids.
October 22, 2017
- A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department found a storage unit was “unlocked and appeared to have been forced open.” The officer made contact with the tenant of the storage unit.
- A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department found a “vehicle parked out in the middle of the road.” In the ensuing investigation, the officer learned the operator of the vehicle “got into an argument” with a fellow occupant, who “kicked her out of the car and left.” The operator said “she will walk down to the location of the vehicle and if it is not out of gas, she will take it back to the owner’s home.”
- A caller said her dog was lost.
- A caller “reported her locked vehicle broken into sometime overnight.” An officer responded.
- A caller said he “wanted to pick up his son for a couple of hours to spend time with him.” The caller said “his ex-wife was fine at first, but then she changed her mind.” The caller asked whether “he could just go inside her place, take his kid and run out.” An officer responded and “advised him not to do that” but to “contact his attorney” instead and “see if they could come up with a court order on visitations or nicely call his ex-wife and ask her to see his son.”
- A caller said “both of her vehicles were broken into.” An officer responded.
- Jose Ramiro Vargas-Orellano, 26, 610 North St., Perry, was arrested on a charge of first-offense OWI.
- A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded, “located the dog and took it to the pound.”
- A caller said “all four tires on her vehicle were slashed.” The caller said she “believes it’s one of her daughters ex-boyfriends who did this.” Officers responded. The caller later entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said “her husband reminded her that about three months ago the tires on the same vehicle were slashed,” but at the time they “had no evidence and failed to report it.”
- A caller said “someone has broken into his storage area.” An officer responded.
- A caller said “sometime overnight someone got into his locked vehicle and rummaged around.” An officer responded.
- A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded but did not find the loose dog.
- A caller said “he thought he heard two gunshots.” Officers responded but “were not able to locate any problems.”
- A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a cellular telephone she found in the park. An officer responded and made contact with the owner of the item, who “came to the police department, signed a receipt and the phone was given to her.”
- A caller reported “a small child running down the street naked.” An officer responded and located a woman “who caught the child, who had slipped out of the house after his bath.” The woman “also caught her dog that had gotten out of the house with the child.”
- A caller said she received a telephone call from her sister, “who ran away from a halfway house in Des Moines” The caller said the runaway “told her sister she would be at the house shortly to pick up some clothes.” Officers responded, but the runaway had come and gone, and they were “not able to locate the vehicle.”
- A caller said a dog was running at large. Officers responded but could not catch the loose dog.
- A caller said two dogs were running at large. Officers responded and transported the animals to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
- A caller reported “receiving harassing text messages from” someone. An officer responded and advised the caller “to contact his carrier and have the calls blocked.”
- A caller from a local retail store reported the presence of someone who “is not welcome on their property.” An officer responded and made contact with the unwelcome one, who “left, no problems.”
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
