The first grade class at St. Patrick’s Catholic School were rewarded Friday for their hard work during the recent Light Up the Knight fundraiser for the parochial school.
Mrs. Kay Weishaar’s students raised $1,613.31 in the annual plea to reign as the top class this year. Doing so earned the class a ride to Friday’s school mass atop the Perry Fire Department’s 75-foot ladder truck.
Light Up the Knight generated $10,250 in support. A total of 38 local businesses made either monetary donations or provided prizes for the efforts, and 27 students earned special prizes for raising at least $100 apiece.
Tuition paid to St. Patrick’s does not cover the additional costs of field trips, extra classroom supplies or supplies for Reading Week, Red Ribbon Week, Catholic Schools Week and any number of other activities and programs. Funds raised by Light Up the Knight help defray, or completely cover, those additional costs.
