Bright skies and bright smiles were in abundance Sunday as the Perry Booster Club hosted what they hope will be the start of an annual tradition — the Tinsel Trot 5K.
A total of 64 runners/walkers registered at the McCreary Community Building, with photo opportunities galore available. Santa Claus was on hand to act as the official starter of the race, with Mr. Kringle happily posing for an untold number of photos.
“The weather was great,” organizer Tiffany Olejniczak said. “It was a great event for the booster club.”
Funds raised by registration fees will be used for a variety of PHS student activities.

Perry High School senior Grace Stewart and Perry teachers Nathan Krohn and Jen Sprung were the first three finishers. Participants were treated to hot chocolate and cookies, courtesy of Hy-Vee, after the event.
Lainey Thomason was chosen as Most Festive Student and Ann Hegstrom as Most Festive Adult. Perry kindergarten teachers and St. Patrick’s Catholic School faculty/staff were each named Most Festive Team.
Olejniczak said organizers hope to make the event an annual fixture in the community and thanked those participating or helping out Sunday. Some discussion was held of possibly moving the event to the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Perry High senior Skylar Cunningham used her considerable video and editing skill to capture several moments from Tinsel Trot 2017.
