Hawk wrestlers win two of three Tuesday

DES MOINES — Woodward-Granger opened their stay at a Tuesday quadrangular bu suffering a 43-21 loss to Interstate-35. Far from flustered, the W-G responded by ripping Des Moines Roosevelt, 76-5, before posting a 41-34 victory over host Des Moines Lincoln.

W-G finished 25-17 in individual matches, receiving seven forfeits along the way while not giving away any points with an open class. The Hawks recorded 12 pins, and won twice by technical fall, twice by major decision and two other times with decisions.

Cody Fisher (195 pounds) and Hunter Pierce (106 pounds) were the lone W-G grapplers to finish 3-0. Fisher recorded two pins and received a forfeit while Pierce pinned one foe and was given two forfeits.

Austin Scharlau (152) and Gabe Yingst (160) were both 2-1, with each recording one pin and one tech fall, while Colt Palmer (132) was 2-1 with a pair of pin fall victories.

Payton Tague (126) was 2-1 with a pin and a decision, Cole Carman (145) 2-1 with a decision and a major decision, Tyler Lawrenson (220) 2-1 with a pin and a forfeit and Ryan Munoz (120) 2-1 with a major decision and a forfeit.

Three Hawks — Dilynn Lewiston (113), Cale Pritchett (170) and Kade Polich (182) — were each winners by pin fall while finishing 1-2 overall. Also 1-2 were Jay Dorenkamp (138) and Dillon Fogarty (285), both of who received forfeits for their sole win.

Woodward-Granger hosts AC/GC, Van Meter/Earlham and East Union tonight for a quadrangular in their final pre-Christmas break action this season. The Hawks return to the mats after the holidays when they travel to the Winterset Invitational Jan. 6.
