BOONE — The Iowa Football Coaches Association made their proposal for changes to the playoff system and district alignments to the IHSAA Playoff Advisory Committee Wednesday.
After 90 minutes of debate, the PAC passed the coaches proposal with an unanimous vote. The IHSAA also has a proposal, and both will be presented to the IHSAA Board of Control at their January meeting.
The board has the option to accept either proposal or mix the two. The IHSAA suggestion would keep a nine-game regular season and create nine six-team districts in Classes 1A, 2A and 3A (as would the coaches) but would have only 16 (the coaches advocate 32) teams making the postseason.
Both proposals have a 42-member Class 4A, with Class A and 8-Man size to be determined by the number of teams in each, which is not yet set.
The exact district alignments and postseason arrangements are expected to be announced by the last week of January.
