Waukee construction site destroyed in Saturday fire

WAUKEE — Fire broke out at a Waukee construction site shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday near Hickman Road and S.E. Alice’s Road, with firefighters from half-a-dozen area agencies responding.

The fire in the three-story apartment complex under construction at 442 S.E. Laurel St. spread quickly, and emergency personnel evacuated residents from the nearby Midwest Mobile Home Development.

The construction is in the Bricktown Two residential development on the south side of Hickman Road and to the west of S.E. Westgate Drive.

There were no reported injuries.

Fire departments from Waukee, West Des Moines, Clive, Urbandale, Adel and Dallas Center responded to the morning blaze, along with the Waukee and Clive police departments and Dallas County Sheriff’s office. The Dallas County EMS, Waukee EMS and Urbandale EMS also responded.
