OGDEN — Tuesday’s WCAC boys game between Panorama and host Ogden featured a series of runs from both teams, with the home-standing Bulldogs prevailing, 83-78.
Ogden (5-5, 3-5) trailed, 16-15, after one quarter but opened a 32-24 lead in the second frame before Panorama (1-8, 1-7) closed to withing 34-32 at the intermission.
The Bulldogs scored the first seven points of the third period to move in front, 41-32, but the Panthers launched another run to pull to within 54-52 entering the four quarter.
Ogden led, 69-67, with two minutes to play and held a 77-70 edge with 60 seconds remaining, holding off a frantic Panorama run down the stretch to preserve the win.
Both teams were dialed in from long range, with Panorama sinking 13 3-pointers and Ogden nine. The Panthers hit 13-of-22 free throws but were undone by a 20-of-25 effort at the stripe by the hosts.
Ben Heeren, a 6-6 junior, hit 11-of-14 field goals as well as 2-of-3 3-pointers while adding 6-of-7 foul shooting to pour in 34 points for Ogden. He pulled down nine rebounds and made three assists.
Kayden Kruse added 13 points, Noah Snedden 11, and Jacob Craven nine to help lead the Bulldogs.
Malachi Peasley buried six treys, Luke South four and Gracen Welberg three, with the trio scoring 20, 18, and 16 points, respectively. Jacob Merschman scored eight points, Zac Rizzuti seven, Michael Allen five and Blaine Barber and Kolby Shackelford two apiece.
Panorama hosts the Woodward Academy for a boys-only junior varsity/varsity set Friday. The Panthers travel to Des Moines Christian Tuesday and West Central Valley Jan. 12.
