EARLHAM — A four-point scoring differential in the third quarter and a five-point edge in the fourth allowed Earlham to widen a 20-19 halftime advantage and claim a 50-40 win over Woodward-Granger in WCAC boys play Tuesday.
W-G (6-4, 4-4) entered the contest averaging more than 64 points per game but were unable to find any offensive rhythm Tuesday, attempting only 42 shots and making just 15. The team was without leading scoring Keith Braunschweig and attempted only nine free throws, making seven.
Byce Achenbach led the Hawks with nine points, with Noah Hoyt adding eight points and Reese Jamison and J.P. Nixon six apiece. Pacey Moats provided five points, with Kaya Bowlsby, Brendan Bird and Cole Theisen providing one basket apiece.
Nixon had a team-high six rebounds, with Achenbach making nine assists. Nixon finished with five steals, with Jamison and Hoyt recording three thefts each.
W-G hosts AC/GC Friday, West Central Valley Tuesday and Des Moines Christian Jan. 12.
