
WINTERSET — Second-ranked 195-pounder Cody Fisher won his weight class Saturday at the Gary Christensen Invite, highlighting a tough day against difficult competition for the Woodward-Granger matmen.
Waukee’s 243 points won the team title, with Interstate-35 second at 198.5 and Winterset third at 133. Osage (124) was fourth, Van Meter/Earlham (122) second and W-G (113) sixth in the 17-team field.
Needed just two seconds shy of six total minutes to record four pinfalls and claim his division. The sophomore is now 32-0 for the season.
Austin Scharlau (23-10) finished 2-2 with a pair of wins by decision to place fourth at 152, with Gabe Yingst (25-5) 2-2 with two pins in finishing fourth at 160.
The two biggest Hawks each placed fifth, with Tyler Lawrenson (20-11 at 220) scoring two pins and recording a decision while Dillon Fogarty (19-11 at 285) was 2-2 with two victories by pin.
Hunter Pierce (23-8) was sixth at 106 pounds after winning one of four matches, the win coming by pin. Also sixth was Ryan Munoz (20-11) at 120, with two wins by pin during a 2-3 run.
Recording a pin and finishing eighth at 132 with a 1-3 mark was Colt Palmer (19-13), with Jay Dorenkamp (13-14) eighth at 138 after finishing 2-2 with a pair of pins.
Five Hawks were in action but did not place. Cole Carman (21-11 at 145) was 2-2 with a pin and a decision, with Cale Pritchett (12-9 at 170) 1-2 with a win by fall. Dilynn Lewiston (14-7 at 113), Tate Lettow (0-3 at 126) and Kade Polich (8-12 at 182), were unable to find their way to victory.
W-G will join Waukee in competing at Ames Thursday, and will then participate in the Perry Invitational Saturday.
