Boone entered Tuesday’s girls basketball game with host Perry boasting an unblemished Raccoon River Conference record, and, after a brief scare in the second quarter, showed why with a 63-30 victory.
Ranked seventh in Class 4A, Boone (11-1, 6-0) held a 9-2 lead, only to have a series of Perry 3-pointers allow the Jayettes (2-11, 0-6) to grab a brief 12-11 lead three minutes into the second frame.
The Toreadors responded immediately, launching a 14-1 run to close the quarter and enter halftime with a 25-13 advantage.
Perry scored more points in the third quarter than in the first two with a 14-point burst, but Boone was scoring 19 at the same time to open a 44-27 gulf en route to the victory.
Caitlynne Shadle hit three 3-pointers in scoring a game-high 19 points for the guests, who received 15 points from Claire Sandvig and 11 from Emma Dighton to fuel the win.
Molly Lutmer led Perry with 12 points, with Isabel Saemisch and Grace Stewart each scoring five points. Alyssa Kruger sank a 3-pointer, as did Ainsley Marburger, with a pair of free throws from Gabby West accounting for the remainder of the Jayette offense.
Perry visits Bondurant-Farrar Friday, and is then off until a trip to Carlisle Jan. 19.
