
Woodward-Granger finished seventh in a strong 15-team field Saturday at the Perry Invitational, with seven Hawk wrestlers earning podium spots providing the bulk of the team scoring.
Class 2A No. 3 Webster City nipped Panorama, 189-185, for top honors, with Sergeant Bluff-Luton third at 179.5; the Hawks were seventh with 122.5 points.
Sophomore 195-pounder Cody Fisher, ranked second in 2A, improved to 35-0 on the season while easily winning his divison. Fisher recorded a technical fall and two pins to claim the top spot.

Senior 106-pounder Hunter Pierce nearly joined Fisher as a champion, but was stopped on a 6-0 decision by Van Meter/Earlham’s Riley Harger in the finals. Pierce (25-9) had advanced with a pair of wins by fall.
Gabe Yingst won by decision, lost by decision and then won twice by fall to finish third at 160 pounds. His 3-1 outing lifts his season record to 28-6.
Ryan Munoz finished 3-2 with a pin and two decision to place fifth at 120 pounds, with Cole Carman following the same path to finish fifth at 145 pounds. Munoz is now 23-13 overall and Carman 24-13.
Senior Austin Scharlau won by fall in his first match before dropping a pair of narrow decisions. He lost by fall to finish sixth at 152 pounds and is now 23-13 overall.

W-G also received a placing from Colt Palmer (21-16). The 132-pounder scored a pin before losing twice by fall. He responded with a pin, but was then on the wrong side of a fall in his final bout to place eighth.
Dilynn Lewiston (11-8 at 113), Kade Polich (10-20 at 182), and Dillon Fogarty (20-14 at 220) all finished 1-3 at the invitational, with each winning once by pin.
Tate Lettow (1-5 at 120) was 1-2 with a pin, with Cale Pritchett (14-15 at 170) 1-2 with a decision while Jay Dorenkamp (13-16 at 138) and Griffen Gibbons (0-5 at 285) unable to record a victory.
W-G will host Baxter and Gilbert for a triangular Tuesday before competing Saturday at the Interstate-35 Invitational.
