January 26, 2018

  • An officer assisted a deputy with a car-versus-deer accident on N Avenue near 250th Street. An ambulance owned by the Greene County EMS struck the deer. A Greene County Deputy provided the accident report.
  • Kristina Greene reported a stray dog near the 100 block of S. Maple Street. The owner arrived and removed the animal before the officer’s arrival.
  • Amanda Rumley said she found a wallet in her driveway at 501 W. State St. The officer located identification in the wallet and returned it to its owner.
  • An officer was advised of a cat bite at the Greene County Hospital emergency room. The officer learned a cat scratched its owner while being placed in an animal carrier. The animal was current on vaccinations. City ordinances do not require action by law enforcement in this type of situation.
  • Amy Baugh spoke with an officer about a possible credit card fraud with her adult son’s card. An officer is awaiting an opportunity to speak with her son.
  • Linda Cherryholmes reported two dogs on her porch at 408 N. Maple St. The owner was present and retrieving the animals when the officer arrived. The owner was given a time period in which to become compliant with animal licensing.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 800 block of S. Elm Street, resulting in Jason Haley of Exira being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • Nicole Johnson reported a tree branch in the roadway on S. Elm Street near 250th Street. An officer removed the branch from the roadway.
  • A caller reported trash that was dumped near Neola and 250th streets. An officer located mail in the trash and is making contact with the litterer to clean up the items.
  • An officer located a large pile of broken glass near Reed and Cedar streets. The officer cleared the hazard from the street.
  • Kelsey Reed reported a vehicle driving over the curb while entering the parking lot at 106 W. Washington St. An officer made contact with the driver as he left the store and spoke with him. He was not impaired and was given a verbal warning from the officer.

January 27, 2018

  • A caller reported a careless driver near Locust Street and Lincoln Way. An officer responded but did not locate the vehicle.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 700 block of Wild Rose Lane, resulting in Trevor Baugh of Churdan being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • Mercedes Geigle reported a stray dog running freely near Harrison and Pinet streets. An officer located the animal but could not get near it.
  • Officers assisted the Jefferson Fire Department with a house fire at 300 S. Pinet St. It was determined that a mattress in an upstairs bedroom was where the fire began. Officers were called to the address Jan. 24 for another upstairs fire at the residence. A male juvenile had lit the curtains on fire with a lighter on this day. Two male juveniles were removed from the custody of their father and placed by Iowa Department of Human Services in a temporary facility. The house suffered an estimated $25,000 in smoke and water damage.
  • A local gaming facility reported a male leaving the premises who was possibly impaired by alcohol. The male returned to the gaming hall before the officer located the reported vehicle. The male made arrangements for a room and was going to bed for the evening. The male was served alcohol after returning, so the officer did not investigate a driving while impaired situation.
  • Mary Norgart reported a large fire in the yard at 207 N. Cedar St. An officer arrived and learned the owner was watching the fire and was burning yard waste.
  • While patrolling in the 800 block of W. State Street, officers saw someone in a white hoodie in backyards of the area. The person fled on foot from the officers. Officers and a deputy searched the area but did not locate the person who fled.
  • An officer checked on a male walking in the roadway on 220th Street near Grimmell Road. The male said he had been at a local gaming facility and was walking home on Westwood Drive.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Sheriff’s office with an underage drinking party at 2246 E Ave. in Scranton.
  • Rhonda Davis spoke with an officer about a civil property dispute occurring at 702 N. Cedar St.

January 28, 2018

  • Rich Burkhardt reported criminal mischief to his truck at 401 E. McKinley St. The driver’s side window was broken out overnight. The officer did not locate any evidence but the matter is under investigation.
  • Anita Vanhorn reported finding a girl’s pink bike in the ditch near 1581 235th St. An officer placed the bike in impound.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 800 block of S. Mulberry Street, resulting in Evan Woodruff of Jefferson being issues a citation for excessive speed.
  • Alan Howard reported his daughter and her roommate were fighting at 803 W. Adams St. An officer arrived and learned the roommates were involved in a verbal argument but had separated.
