Raeford Eugene Updike, 69, of Woodward passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa, with family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Raeford was born Feb. 10, 1949, to Jack and Frances Updike of Adel at the Redfield Hospital.

Raeford graduated from Woodward-Granger and went on to own and operate the Woodward Body Shop with his business partner, Terry Rothfus, for 42 years.

He had a passion for cars and racing and enjoyed nights spent at the Boone Speedway.

When not working on cars or at the racetrack, Raeford enjoyed cheering on the Hawkeyes, being a spokesperson for Natty, spending time at the Whistlin’ Donkey and bragging about his grandchildren.

Raeford is preceded in death by his father, Jack Updike.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Adam (Lindsey) Updike of Grimes; his daughter, Renice (Jeff) Bundy of Fairborn, Ohio; four grandchildren, Tanner and Peyton Bundy and Jaxton and Harper Updike; his mother, Frances Updike of Woodward; two sisters, Rhonda (Dave) Thornburg and Rochelle Updike, both of Bouton; along with several nieces; nephews; and many close friends.

A visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 25 from 2-5 p.m. at Iles-Brandt Funeral Home, 1301 Ash St. in Dallas Center. Burial will be at the Woodward Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
