The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a winter weather advisory in effect Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
A winter storm system is expected to spread across much of northwest Iowa and into north-central Iowa on Saturday, lasting into Saturday night.
Light, freezing rain is forecast over central and south central Iowa Saturday morning before changing over to light rain. Patchy, blowing snow is expected across the northern and western portions of the state into Saturday night.
Up to two inches of snow and ice up to two-tenths of an inch are forecast.
The ice will result in difficult travel conditions, and precipitation will change from freezing rain to rain and then back to snow. Travelers should be prepared for slippery roads reduced visibility at times, especially when it is snowing.
Along with Perry and all of Dallas County, other Iowa counties under the winter weather advisory include Greene, Boone, Story, Audubon and Guthrie counties and the cities of Jefferson, Boone, Ames, Audubon, Exira, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee and Adel.
