Senior Tanner Duffy led Perry to a season-low 179 with a medalist-winning round of 40 during a Raccoon River Conference meet with Boone and Carroll at the Perry Golf and Country Club Tuesday.

Duffy had three pars and birdied the par-5 eight hole while playing the five remaining holes with bogeys to finish with his four-over par 40. He edged Boone’s Tom Clemons, who also shot a 40, with a first handicap hole tiebreaker.

Boone fired a 170 for top team honors, with Perry checking in at 179 and Carroll at 187.

“Overall this was a really good day for us as a team,” Perry head coach John Fulton said. “Our goal has been to get under 180 and we were able to do that with some pretty solid rounds from our top four.”

“Tanner played really well in earning the medalist spot and has been really consistent off the tee the last couple of meets,” he added. “It was also good just to play in some decent weather.”

Luke Rathje was headed for the mid-40’s, but scored an eagle three on the par-five third hole and followed up with a birdie three on the par-four fourth to help the senior card a 42. Connor Nielsen celebrated his 18th birthday with a 47, with Emilio Gonzalez recording a 50. Gabe Ridnour (61) also played for the Jays, but his score was not used for the team total.

Clemons (40) led Boone, with Ben Wagner (41), Doug Johnston (44), and Christian Bushore (45) also scoring for the Toreadors. Taylor Wauhob and Mason Zimmerman also played for Boone, with both finishing at 49.

A round of 45 from Kayd Nissen paced Carroll, with Ty Nissen and Jace Pettitt each shooting 47 while Tyler Tunning had a 48. Jake Johnson’s 58 was not used for the Tiger total.

Perry is scheduled to visit Winterset Thursday before hosting the annual Bluejay Invitational Saturday.
