Saturday’s gloomy weather was greatly relieved by the color-fast brightness of the second annual Fiber Art Fair in Perry’s Downtown Cultural District, sponsored by Art on the Prairie and La Poste LLC.

The day was filled with classes and demonstrations of the sempstress’ arts in all their infinite variety, and organizers said the event was another big success.

“We are so thrilled with the turnout of the fiber art fair,” said Jenny Eklund of La Poste LLC. “Wonderful vendors, so many customers, so many guests, chocolate chip cookies, smoked meats, music, beverages — the quilt guild has a packed house. The sun’s out. What more could you want?”

Lattes, espressos, coffee and tea were served all day at the newly relocated Perry Perk coffeehouse, and blackout barbecue was available in the Cellar of La Poste.

The Perry Piecemakers Quilt Guild conducted various activities in Backward Properties’ Citizens State Bank building, including presentations by Marti Klatt and the Des Moines-based Bitsy Chicks.

Instructor Tasha Wells led a class in beginning crochet, and Maggie Howe taught a class in drop-spindling.

The lineup of vendors and demonstrators for the fair included Wool Mittens, Girl with a Sword Productions, Leilani McDonald, Creations Looming, Ada’s Acres, Char’s Bit of Black and Two Cedars Weaving.
