Adriana Eastman delivers a clutch triple in postseason play last summer. Eastman had a base hit in Perry's season opener Monday.

URBANDALE — Three first-inning errors allowed host Des Moines Christian to plate five runs, setting the stage for an 11-1 season-opening win over Perry in five innings of non-conference softball.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

The Lions added two runs in the bottom of the second, with the Jayettes moving the scoreboard when Alyssa Kruger plated Sid Vancil with a base hit.

Unfortunately for Perry the hosts responded with four tallies in their half of the inning to cap the scoring and set the stage for the early ending.

Kruger was 2-for-3 at the plate for Perry, with Vancil, Adriana Eastman and T.J. Sheehy each adding a hit.

DMC drew four walks while recording 10 hits off Kruger, who was charged with seven earned runs.

The senior could perhaps be excused, as she arrived at the ballpark just in time for warm-ups after hustling west from a regional golf tourney in Grinnell, where she earned the right to compete at the state tournament next week.

Head coach Tina Lutterman noted the Perry outfield consisted of freshmen and eighth-graders. The trio did not make an error and each put the bat on the ball in each of their two at-bats, with the coach confident “we will keep getting stronger.”

Perry returns to action Friday at Norwalk and at ADM May 29 before hosting Carroll in their home opener May 30.
