PANORA — Visiting Madrid scored four times in the top of the seventh to pull away from Panorama, 8-4, in WCAC baseball Thursday. The loss for the Panthers followed a season-opening 8-0 setback to host Des Moines Christian May 22.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]
Panorama was on the board first against Madrid with a run in their initial at-bat, but the Tigers scored three times in the third and once in the top of the fifth to open a 4-1 edge. The Panthers plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap, but were able to answer Madrid’s four-run seventh with just a single mark of their own in suffering the loss.
Luke South went 6-2/3 innings on the hill for the hosts, yielding eight runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out four. Jacob Iseminger came on the record the final out.
Koltin Sloss hit a single and a double while driving in two runs for Panorama, with Steve Soreide adding a base hit and scoring twice. Tanner Godfrey and Hunter Holmes also had hits, with South recording a RBI while Dylan Douglass and Kade Arganbright each scored once.
Logan Wicker earned the win for Madrid, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks in six innings. He finished with three strikeouts.
Nolan Owensby tossed an inning of two-hit, one-run relief, walking one batter in the process.
Bryce Dean smacked a home run, hit a single and drove in three for Madrid, with Wicker driving in two runs with a single and a double. Braden Gibbons had two base hits while Owensby had a single and two RBIs.
DMC blanked Panorama May 22 in Urbandale behind the pitchign of Tyler Ketcham, who allowed six hits while fanning three in a complete game.
The Lions scored three times in the third, four more times in the fifth, then added a final run in the sixth. Luke Lehman and Frankie Accurso each had three RBIs for the hosts.
Holmes was the losing pitcher, surrendering five runs on two hits in four innings. He issued six walks and struck out five.
Dominic Walker threw two innings of relief, yielding three runs (two earned) on three hits. He walked three and struck out one.
Levi Richey had two singles for the Panthers, with Sloss, Soreide, South, and Walker also recording base hits.
Panorama visits Ogden tonight, hosts Van Meter Thursday and will then travel to Underwood Friday.
