INDIANOLA — The Perry swim team competed against Indianola Tuesday, with the Indians claiming a 148-40 victory. The hosts won all but one of the 11 events, and with a roster size more than triple that of the Jayettes were able to compile large chunks of points in each race, a situation Perry will be faced with throughout the season.
Sarah Vaughn provided a bright moment for the guests when she won the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 21.29 seconds. It was the first time the Jayette junior had swam in the discipline/distance in her high school career.
Dannah Karolus posted a pair of personal-best times while finishing second in both the 50 free (28.23) and the 100 free (1:02.83), with Amanda Holwegner fifth in the former in 30.68 while Avery Miner was fifth in the later in 1:09.96.
The combination of Jaylene Karolus, Abby Herman, Dannah Karolus and Holwegner were third in the 200 medley relay in 2:13.59, with Herman, Holwegner, Jaylene Karolus and Anna Ridnour second in the 200 free in 1:59.31[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]
Ridnour had placed fourth (2:48.02) and Herman fifth (2:48.94) in the 200 IM, with Vaughn touching second in the 500 free in 6:18.05.
Jaylene Karolus and Miner and 2-4 in the 100 backstroke in 1:15.81 and 1:23.9, respectively, with times of 1:27.33 from Ridnour and of 1:30.2 from Holwegner giving Perry a 4-5 finish in the 100 breaststroke.
Herman, Vaughn and both Karolus sisters swam the final event — the 400 free relay — and finished second in 4:23.96. Perry did not compete in the 100 butterfly.
Perry hosts Boone and Algona for a double-dual Tuesday before returning to Indianola Sept. 6. Des Moines Roosevelt is also expected to compete at Indianola.
