
OGDEN — Woodward-Granger scored five rushing touchdowns while compiling over 400 yards on the ground Friday to fuel a 46-7 non-district win over host Ogden.
The Hawks (2-0) finished with 420 yards on 55 carries as the guests dominated time of possession and slowly wore out their hosts. Quarterback Keith Braunschweig finished 6-11-2 for 105 yards and a TD as the offense totaled 525 yards.
Bulldog quarterback Sam Christensen connected on 12-of-28 passes for one score and 141 yards while tossing two interceptions. The hosts ran the ball 27 times for 112 yards, for a total offensive output of 253 yards but only one score.
Tate Lettow had 154 yards on 22 carries and dashed in from 10 yards out less than three minutes into the game for a 6-0 W-G lead. The margin grew to 12-0 five minutes later when Reese Jamison returned an interception 48 yards for a touchdown.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]
Gabe Yingst ran 12 yards to push the score to 18-0 in the second quarter before Christensen found Griffin Diggs on a six yard pass, with Kolbe Sundall’s PAT cutting Ogden’s gap to 18-7 midway through period two.
The halftime score stood at 26-7 after Cade Polich burst eight yards for a TD, with Braunschweig flipping a two-point conversion pass to Pacey Moats.
Moats hauled in a 10-yard TD Pass for the only points of the third quarter, with Matt Hansen booting the PAT. Gabe Yingst scored on two short runs in the fourth, with Hansen adding 1-of-2 PAT tries in the stanza to set the final score.
Bryce Achenbach caught three passes for 74 yards and Moats three for 31 yards and a TD to account for the W-G receiving corps, with Braunschweig (8-117), Polich (11-78, 1 TD), Yingst (13-70, 1 TD) and Dylan Bird (1-1) joining Lettow in running the ball.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]
Yingst led the defense with 7.5 tackles, with Achenbach and Lettow making seven stops apiece while Jamison had 6.5 denials. Achenbach had two interceptions and 45 return yards, with Braunschweig making two sacks and Yingst, Polich, Jackson Newland and Joe Rhodes one sack each.
Lucas Elsner (5-66), Diggs (4-61, 1 TD), Charlie Lake (1-13), Ethan Snedden (1-3) and Kaleb Badker (1, minus-2) caught passes for the hosts, with Christensen (20-75), Lake (6-33) and Elsner (1-4) carrying the pigskin.
Lake had 13.5 tackles and a sack and Snedden 11.5 tackles, with Diggs intercepting two passes while Christensen recovered a fumble.
W-G host South Hamilton Friday. Also 2-0, South Hamilton has played both of their games at home, defeating South Hardin, 26-15, and Grundy Center 26-14.
