A training session for the new Book Buddy program in Perry, in which volunteers read one-on-one with preschool students, is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 2 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Perry Public Library at 1101 Willis Ave.

Research shows that children who start behind, stay behind. You can make the difference!

Book Buddy reaches children from low-income families in the critical year before kindergarten, helping them build the pre-reading skills they need for a strong start in school.

Currently serving eight locations in Des Moines, the United Way of Central Iowa is bringing the Book Buddy program to Perry this October. Volunteers will read one-on-one with preschool students, using an easy-to-follow curriculum, and children bring home their own copy of the featured book each week.

An organizing meeting for the new Perry Book Buddy program is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Perry Public Library at 1101 Willis Ave. Please complete the online RSVP if you plan to attend.
