Perry swimmers compete in double-dual at Atlantic

ATLANTIC — Perry was joined by Spencer in swimming in a double-dual at Atlantic Tuesday. The format called for each team to be scored against each opponent individually.

Spencer was a 123-43 winner over Perry while defeating Atlantic, 90-83. The host Trojans were 90-21 winners against Perry.

Perry was second against Atlantic and third to Spencer (shown hereafter as 2/3) in the 200 medley relay in 2 minutes, 24.73 seconds, with Avery Miner, Anna Ridnour, Jaylene Karolus and Abby Herman swimming for the Jayettes.

Herman, Ridnour, Amanda Holwegner and Dannah Karolus finished 3/2 (Atlantic/Spencer) in the 200 freestyle relay with a clocking of 2:00.87, with Herman, Sarah Vaughn, Jaylene Karolus and Dannah Karolus teaming to place 3/1 in the 400 free relay in 4:30.42.

Dannah Karolus was 3/1 and Vaughn second to Spencer in the 200 free with times of 2:18.62 and 2:33.18, respectively, with Herman was 3/1, in 2:50.27, in the 200 IM.

Sophomore Holwegner and freshman Gracie Phillips are both Panorama students competing for Perry as part of a sharing agreement. Phillips, who had been battling an injury, saw her first competition of the season in the 50 free, placing third to Spencer in 34.73 seconds while Holwegner was 3/2 in 30.38.

Jaylene Karolus was 2/1 in a personal-best 1:09.62 in the 100 butterfly while Holwegner used a PB effort of 1:06.63 in finishing second to Spencer in the 100 free.

Vaughn’s 6:21.49 in the 500 free was 3/2, with Jaylene Karolus 2/3 in the 100 backstroke in 1:12.37 while Ridnour was third to Spencer (Atlantic left the event open) in the 100 breaststroke in 1:29.94.

Perry will conclude their regular season Monday when they are joined by familiar for Algona for a double-dual at Carroll.
