AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University freshman Janet “Jay” Ortiz of Perry was invited by Iowa State University President Wendy Wintersteen to participate this fall in the 2018-2019 President’s Leadership Class.
Ortiz, a 2018 graduate of Perry High School, is majoring in psychology at ISU.
Each year, 30 first-year students are selected for the leadership class based on high school leadership experience, academic achievement, and involvement in school and community service.
The President’s Leadership Class builds on these abilities and experiences, serving as an important training ground for students who will go on to become campus leaders and ultimately leaders in their professions and communities.
The class meets weekly at the Knoll, the ISU president’s residence, in order to discuss topics related to leadership with President Wintersteen, Robert Waggoner and other key university leaders.
The enrollment honor is also accompanied by a $1,000 scholarship.
