It is unusual, to say the least, for any player on a team that finishes their football season 0-9 to attract much positive attention.
Perry senior Kaleb Olejniczak’s outstanding play this season has helped make the University of Northern Iowa-bound wrestler an exception to the rule, as he has been named to the Class 3A All-State Third Team Defense by the Iowa Print Sportswriters Association. The full list was recently made public.
Olejniczak patrolled the secondary and was devastating in coming forward from his safety spot to stop the run. He finished with 60 solo tackles and was in on another 82 assisted stops (counted as one-half tackle each) for 142 instances in which he helped stop a ballcarrier. His 101 total tackles tied for top honors in 3A.
Olejniczak finished with one interception, numerous passes broken up, one tackle for loss and one assisted stop for a loss.
