A Saturday matinee turned sour for the Perry basketball teams after Des Moines Christian swept both ends of a non-conference twin set.

The DMC girls (2-2) were 63-36 winners while the Lions (2-1) won the boys game by a 74-28 margin. The Jayettes fell to 1-4 overall with their loss while the Perry boys saw their record move to 0-3.

Perry saw the opener get away from them in the second quarter. The Jayettes entered the frame facing a 13-7 deficit, but were outscored 24-3 in the second stanza and went to the intermission on the wrong side of a 37-10 gulf.

Molly Lutmer did almost all of the damage for Perry, with the junior guard scoring 19 points in the second half to finish with a game high of 27. She was 5-of-11 on 3-pointers and had 11 rebounds while the rest of the team hit only 1-of-12 beyond the arc.

Quinn Whiton added four points, Peyton Tunink splashed a deep ball for three points and Gabby West had two points while pulling down 10 rebounds.

Mariah Prewitt led the Lions with 15 points, with Kaili Lawson contributing 11 points and Kate Muller 10.

The Bluejays found themselves in trouble from the start of their game and fell into a 27-7 hole after eight minutes of play, a deficit that widened to 50-18 at the break. The guests led 65-21 after three quarters, with a continuous clock running starting early in the frame.

Mario Cruz led Perry with nine points, with Mohammed Abdelnabi and Keghan West each scoring seven points. Jordan Long and Alex Morales had two points apiece, with Carlos Calderon adding a free throw. Abdelnabi had a team-high 10 rebounds and West a team-best four steals.

Seth Juhl had 17 points, Curran Jurgen 14 and Justin Groen 10 for DMC. The Lions hit seven 3-pointers, grabbed 39 rebounds and made 19 steals in the win.

Perry returns to the court when they host DC-G Tuesday before returning to Raccoon River Conference play Friday with a visit to Carlisle. Both dates will begin with the girls game at 6 p.m.
