Autographs were signed, photos taken, memories shared and funds raised for the Perry football team at a gathering of former University of Iowa football standouts Wednesday.

Quarterbacks Chuck Long and Chuck Hartlieb were joined by Lon and Jason Olejniczak for a special gathering at La Poste, with Gary Dolphin, the Voice of the Hawkeyes, serving as emcee for the evening. The event was organized by Kurt Whiton and Tiffany Olejniczak.

Copies of Long’s autobiography, “Destined For Greatness,” were sold and signed. The evening began at 6 p.m. with a ticketed gathering featuring food and a cash bar, with the guests mingling with fans and well-wishers.

At 7:30 p.m. Dolphin led a discussion, with questions following, about the foursome’s days in Iowa City. Many humorous vignettes were shared as well as special moments on the field.

The second portion of the event included a fundraiser, with money raised going to the Perry football team. As part of the fundraiser, a hardcover copy of Long’s book was auctioned off. The book was one of only five to feature the autograph of the author, current Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz and Hawkeye legend Hayden Fry, who recruited and coached the foursome.

Dave Ubben won the bidding, claiming the prize for $450.
