Janet Schlichter, 85, of Woodward passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at the Madrid Home Communities in Madrid, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Woodward United Methodist Church in Woodward. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 3, beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the Woodward United Methodist Church in Woodward. Burial will be in the People’s Cemetery at rural Woodward.

Memorials will be given to the Woodward United Methodist Church and the Woodward American Legion and Auxiliary. The Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care is assisting Janet’s family. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Janet Louise Schlichter was born Aug. 5, 1933, in Perry, Iowa, to Harry Wetzel and Mary Louise (Blumenstock) Dissinger.

She attended school in Bouton for grades 1-3, Webster School in Perry for grades 4-6 and then graduated from Perry High School with the class of 1951.

Janet furthered her education at Iowa State University, attaining a bachelor’s degree in dietetics. After graduation she served an internship at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago, Ill.

Janet was united in marriage to Marvin “Jim” Schlichter in Perry Dec. 1, 1956.

She worked as dietary consultant at the Guthrie County Hospital and several area nursing homes.

Janet was a member of the Woodward United Methodist Church, the Woodward American Legion Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women.

She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, cooking, reading and traveling to Branson, Mo., and Door County, Wis.

In death Janet rejoins her husband, Jim Schlichter; parents, Harry and Mary Dissinger; and a sister, Joyce Bowenkamp.

Left to cherish Janet’s memory are her children, Julie (Robert Herriott) Schlichter of Altoona, Jill (Jeff) Burkhart of Woodward and Susan (Dennis) De Groote of Barnett, Mo.; grandchildren, Jenna Burkhart and James Burkhart, both of Woodward; siblings, Jean Dissinger of Dexter, Joan (Gary) Wright of Yuma, Ariz., and Judy (Skip) Frohling of Sheldahl; nephews, Chip and Jake Frohling; and a niece, Dorothy Schlichter.
