The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Strong winds will move into the western portion of Iowa after midnight Monday night and transition eastward through sunrise Tuesday morning. The blustery northwest winds continue throughout the day Tuesday, with the highest gusts anticipated during the afternoon hours.

The strong northwest winds are forecast to persist into the evening hours but will not be as gusty. Wind speeds of 25 to 35 mph are forecast, with gusts to 40 to 50 mph. Even higher gusts, up to to 55 mph and nearly 60 mph, are possible over northern Iowa Tuesday afternoon.

Difficult driving conditions for high-profile and lighter vehicles will occur at times. Tree limbs and power lines may be blown down, and loose objects, such as trashcans and lawn furniture, are likely to be displaced and even become airborne.

Snow showers are also forecast across portions of north-central to northeast Iowa Tuesday morning. These are expected generally from around the Mason City to Waterloo areas.
