Frostbite happens when the skin and underlying tissues freeze, according to the Dallas County Health Department.

The department advises everyone to take precautions and protect your body as the windchill begins to force the temperatures downward.

Wear loose, warm layers when you have to venture out into the cold, but limit outdoor exposure when you can, the department said.
