PANORA — The “where?” and “when?” were already known. Now the “who?” has been answered as the state wrestling tourney brackets were revealed Sunday.
Eight-ranked sophomore Wyatt Appleseth (38-3) will open his quest for a second consecutive podium spot against fifth-rated Missouri Valley senior Duke Kyle (45-2). The opposite pairing for the Class 1A 145-pound first round has sixth-ranked Michael Egan of MFL-Mar-Mac (38-1) facing Blake McAllister of South Central Calhoun (35-9) in a senior vs. freshman battle. The winners and losers from the two matches will meet, the losers later Thursday and the winners at 9 a.m. Friday.
Panorama senior Garret Fox (32-14) is paired against sixth-rated Cael Rahnaverdi (29-5), a sophomore from Don Bosco. The other 170-pound match in the mini-pairing has second-ranked Graettinger-Terrill junior Treyton Cacek (42-0) facing North Mahaska senior Luke Groves (23-4).
Class 1A action begins Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
