Kevin Vidergar, director of teaching and learning in the Perry school system, announced his retirement Wednesday in a heartfelt message to his fellow workers in the school district.

“It has been an incredible honor to serve as the Director of Teaching and Learning for the past 11 years,” Vidergar told his community. “I am deeply grateful for the chance to work alongside such a committed and caring group of people — teachers, support staff, custodians, kitchen staff, bus drivers, and everyone who plays a role in supporting our students and schools. Your dedication and heart make this district a truly special place.”

Describing himself on LinkedIn as a “systems thinker” who aims at “challenging the status quo,” Vidergar has been motivating and empowering PCSD teachers for more than 10 years, including leading seminars with such titles as “Adapt! Engage! Inspire!”

Prior to taking on the job in 2013 as director of teaching and learning in the Perry Community School District, Vidergar directed teaching and learning in the North Polk Community School District and consulted with the Heartland Area Education Agency in Johnston.

He earned a bachelor’s degree at Winona State University and a master’s at Florida State University. He also has an administrative endorsement from Viterbo University. He now aims to “begin a new chapter in my life — one filled with new opportunities, challenges, and time to explore what lies ahead,” he said.

“As I look to the future, I carry with me a deep sense of pride in all that we’ve accomplished together and gratitude for the relationships and experiences that have shaped my journey,” Vidergar said Wednesday.
