An Adel man was arrested Friday after he allegedly assaulted an Adel woman in the home.

Kevin Eugene Fenton, 47, of 115 S. Sixth St., Adel, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 11 a.m. Friday at a residence in the 100 block of Sixth Street, where officers of the Adel Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

An investigation led officers to conclude that Fenton allegedly “did shove the victim to the ground, causing her to strike her head on the floor, leaving a bump or ‘goose egg’ and held her down, causing bruising to her upper arms,” according to court records.

The officers also observed on the victim “injuries to her right knee with swelling,” according to court records.

Officers responded to the same residence Tuesday afternoon after the victim “told her friend she had a concussion,” but the victim and Fenton “refused to cooperate with law enforcement” at that time,” according to court records.

Fenton is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $300 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 11 in Dallas County District Court.

Fenton was convicted of assault on persons in certain occupations in 2018 in Mahaska County District Court. He was convicted of assault-bodily injury or mental illness in 2023 in Polk County District Court. He was arrested for allegedly assaulting the same victim at a Des Moines motel in December 2022, but the case was later dismissed is Polk County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
