An Adel man was arrested in Waukee Friday night after allegedly drunkenly assaulting an Adel woman in the parking lot of a retail store.
Robert Randall Wallace, 61, of 442 N. 10th St., Adel, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and public intoxication.
The incident began about 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of Hickman Road in Waukee, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a fight in a retail store.
The officers made contact with Wallace, who presented with “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath” and “slurred speech,” according to court records. Wallace allegedly “admitted to drinking Fireball.”
The officers made contact with the victim, who was sitting in a vehicle outside the store. The victim told the officers that Wallace allegedly assaulted her while she was “on the phone and seated in the driver seat, with Wallace in the passenger seat,” according to court records.
Wallace tried “to grab the phone away from” the victim and allegedly “grabbed her neck before pulling her down toward the center console,” according to court records.
The officers observed “marks” on the victim’s “neck that were consistence with the statement she provided,” according to court records.
Wallace is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
