Thomas Andrew Hughes, 59, of Adel was arrested Wednesday on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

An Adel man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Wednesday in connection with a Saturday incident in which he allegedly assaulted an Adel woman in the home.

Thomas Andrew Hughes, 59, of 1418 Locust St., Adel, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began May 31 about 1 a.m. at a residence in the 1400 block of Locust Street.

According to court records, Hughes allegedly “pushed” the victim “down to the ground, which caused a bruise on her left hip/butt cheek,” and the victim “had her right ear ring ripped out of her ear, which caused her ear to bleed, and she also sustained an injury to her left thumb that had swelling and bruising,” according to court records.

A warrant for Hughes’ arrest was ordered Monday in Dallas County District Court and served Wednesday. Hughes is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
