At a recent meeting of the Adel Lions Club, the Lions presented the Adel Scouts BSA Troop 152 with a check for $4,000 for their help over the last year with the Lions Club Holiday Flag project.

The Adel Lions Club is the sponsoring organization for the Adel Cub Scouts, assisting the yougsters with projects through the year, and it “seems only logical they’d remember us when they become Boy Scouts,” said Adel Lion John McAvoy. He said the Scouts use the flag funds to defray the costs for camping trips and other troop activities.

“Thanks, Scouts!” McAQvoy said. “We couldn’t do it without you. It’s a great way for a community to work together.”

The Scouts assist the Lions in placing 1,105 flags around Adel on five national holidays each year. The Perry Lions Club and Perry Optimist Club have a similar program, Flags over Perry, that places about 300 flags yearly.

McAvoy said the Adel Girl Scouts also helped towards the end of the year, and they will also be paid.

“Thanks to the Girl Scouts, too,” he said. “Hope they can help all of this year.”
