An Adel woman was arrested Friday night after allegedly biting and kicking at police officers who tried to make contact with her.

Bria Nicole Stender, 27, of 115 S. Sixth St., Adel, was charged with assault on persons in certain occupations-bodily injury and interference with official acts-bodily injury.

The incident began about 10:15 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of the Raccoon River Valley Trail, where officers of the Adel Police Department tried to conduct a welfare check on Stender.

When an officer attempted to speak to Stender, she allegedly “became agitated and
began yelling ‘Rape!’ and walking back and forth in a very excited manner,” according to court records.

When an officer “attempted to detain” Stender and “grabbed her arms, she fell to the ground” and “pulled her arms in to her chest, and that was when she bit” the officer’s “left
forearm, leaving indentations,” according to court records.

Stender also allegedly tried to kick officers “but did not make contact,” according to court records. She told the officers that “she was not suicidal and was not willing to speak to officers.”

Stender is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 23 in Dallas County District Court.
