An open letter to the senior athletes at Perry, W-G and Panorama

Senior spring sport athletes asked to take part in voluntary survey.

Well, seniors, if nothing else, you will have quite the story to tell your children and grandchildren. It is hard to foresee anything impacting our entire society like the COVID-19 pandemic has, and I hope nothing ever does.

The loyal followers of ThePerryNews.com would normally be treated to a fairly non-stop barrage of reporting on the current boys and girls track, soccer and golf seasons at Perry, Woodward-Granger and Panorama — if they were happening.

There is still some chance a spring season might be held and will be if Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds allows schools to resume on-campus classes May 1. If not, it is likely she will shutter schools for the rest of the academic year, wiping out spring sports and probably baseball or softball seasons as well. Both of the summer sports will begin practices May 18 and competition June 1 — again, if we are back in school like “normal.”

In the meantime, there is some curiosity about how you might be spending your time in possible preparation for any upcoming season.

I have compiled a short list of questions I would like to email you. I am sure you have a few minutes (ha ha) to answer them, if you care to. This small list can be emailed to you, but I will need you first to send my your email address (which will not be shared) so I can collect all the responses I hope to be bombarded with. If you wish, you may attach a senior pic with your replies.

Please share this letter with your friends so the potential pool of respondents can be made wider. If you are the parent or adult friend of a spring sport athlete, please pass this letter on to them. All this is, of course, voluntary, but you might find it fun, and I am certain our readers will enjoy learning how you are coping with preparing for a season you cannot even be sure is going to happen.

There are a few weeks left in April but the sooner I hear from those interested in being heard, the better. I will be collecting the responses and running them in larger group stories as they come in.

I can be reached by email at: websterjeff47@gmail.com or by Facebook Messenger. I will then provide my cell phone number in the event you have any questions.

I look forward to hearing from you!
