The DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, the college said Wednesday evening.
The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a cold weather advisory in effect from 9 p.m. Wednesday until 9 a.m. Thursday for the Perry area and much of the state, with wind chill temperatures of 20 to 30 below zero expected.
The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as few as 10 minutes. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves when venturing outside, the NWS said.
