Assignments set for state-bound Perry tracksters

DES MOINES — Perry’s first event at the Class 3A State Track Meet will be the preliminaries of the boys 100 dash, will begin Thursday at 6:45 p.m.

Kato Dougan will appear for the Bluejays, running in lane one of the second heat. He enters as the 20th-seed with a clocking of 11.52 seconds.

Sid Vancil will step onto the blue oval at 7 p.m. for the timed finals of the girls 400. She enters as the 14th-seed with a time of 1 minute, 2.6 seconds, and will leave the blocks in heat two from lane seven.

Senior Reece Dunlap caps Thursday’s action for Perry when he runs in the boys 400 timed finals at 7:20 p.m. Dunlap was ninth last year in 51.03 and enters seeded 22nd in 53.23.

The Bluejays have two relays competing Friday. Dougan will be joined by Brandon Kenyon, Kaleb Olejniczak and Zachary Thompson in the timed finals of the distance medley at 5:40 p.m. Perry enters seeded 19th in 3:44.3 and will run in lane three of the first heat.

At 7:40 p.m. the 4×400 quartet of Olejniczak, Thompson, Dunlap, and Kenyon will try to advance by posting a top-eight spot from lane six of heat one. Perry is the 11-seed at 3:30.72 and placed fourth last season in 3:23.87 with a foursome that included both Dunlap and Kenyon.

The Perry boys sprint medley squad of Dougan, Olejniczak, Dunlap and Kenyon will run in Saturday’s timed finals at 9:50 a.m. They will compete in lane two of the second heat at the 13th seed (1:35.84).

Vancil will cap her track career by running in the 800 at 10:30 a.m. She is seeded 19th in 2:28.32. and will start in the first spot in the first of two heats.

Kenyon will follow in the boys 800 at 11:10 a.m. He was 13th last year in 2:01.98 and will compete from the eighth spot in the second heat. The senior enters seeded eighth in 2:01.48.

Should Dougan advance in the 100 dash he would compete in the finals at 12:45 p.m., with the finals of the 4×400 set for 3:55 p.m.

The Bluejays are coached by Ben Coy, with Jeff Fox and Ryan Marzen assisting. Matt Hardy is the Jayette head coach, with Paige Wilkin and Chris Morrow assisting.

10:30 a.m. — 800 run timed finals (girls): Sid Vancil, Heat 1, position 1
11:10 a.m. — 800 run timed finals (boys): Brandon Kenyon, Heat 2, position 8
