Perry Police Department Assistant Chief James Archer was awarded the 2023 VFW National Recognized Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award at the Perry City Council meeting Monday night.

Representatives of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2060 in Perry commended Archer for his “dedication and selfless service to the Police Department of Perry. During James Archer’s outstanding career, he has maintained a record of highly professional, exemplary service to the community and the nation.”

Archer, a 23-year veteran of the Perry force, is “truly an exceptional example of all who wear the badge, and his honor reflects the proud ideals and high standards of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States,” the VFW commendation said.

Archer was presented with a certificate of recognition and an official seal of the Iowa VFW by VFW Post 2060 members Ron Leber and Mark Golightly. He thanked the local veterans organization for recognizing his work over nearly three decades in Perry.
