U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced Friday a new $4,368,299 grant for the Perry Municipal Airport. Elkhart-based Wenthold Excavating LLC began earth-moving work on the new 5.500-foot runway in June.

WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced Friday a new $4,368,299 grant for the Perry Municipal Airport to extend the runway to 5,500 feet in order to meet Federal Aviation Administration standards.

The grant is funded as part of the supplement funding provided under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

“I am pleased to see American Rescue Plan funds coming right back here to Iowa to update the Perry Airport and make sure it meets federal standards,” Axne said. “Not only will this grant help the airport, it will bring more good-paying jobs to Iowa. I am proud to have voted for the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which are making great investments in our state that Iowans are now starting to see.”

Elkhart-based Wenthold Excavating LLC began earth-moving work on the new 5.500-foot runway at the Perry airport in June.

Last year Axne announced two more grants that were partially funded by the American Rescue Plan would be used to fund runway reconstruction projects at airports in Des Moines and Perry and over $24 million through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The American Rescue Plan has also provided funding to keep Iowa’s child care providers on the job, update Iowa’s water infrastructure to provide cleaner water, enhance competition and resiliency for Iowa’s meat processing industry, put money in Iowans’ pockets and expand COVID-19 vaccine access.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will provide at least $5.082 billion in various investments for Iowa, which received a “C” infrastructure grade as a state from the American Society of Civil Engineers.
