The Perry Fine Arts Series will present the Greater Des Moines Community Band Sunday, April 15 at 2 pm in the Perry Performing Arts Center at 1200 18th St. in Perry.
The Greater Des Moines Community Band is an ensemble of more than 65 volunteer musicians ages who love to share their lifelong love of music by performing in concert.
The band’s players — ranging in age from 16 to over 80 — performs on weekends in venues such as the Merle Hay Mall, First Christian Church and area retirement homes as well as performing in parades and at senior living centers and the Iowa State Fair.
The Greater Des Moines Community Band was established in October 1987 by Dr. Carroll Childs, who was then the supervisor of music for the Des Moines Public Schools. Christa Miller, a member of the euphonium section, now serves as the band’s director.
Perry Fine Arts would like to thank the Perry Chamber of Commerce for the grant that helps makes this concert possible.
Perry Fine Arts concerts are free, donations accepted, and open to all. The Perry Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible.
