Barbara Ann Field, 77, of Perry passed away at her home on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 15 at 11 a.m. at the Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home-Perry Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Woodward Cemetery in Woodward, Iowa.
Barb was born Feb. 3, 1948, in Charles City, Iowa, to Frank and Irene (Nixt) Katcher.
She graduated from Greene High School in 1966 and earned her bBachelor’s degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1970.
She was united in marriage to Dennis Field in 1972 at St. Mary’s Church in Greene. Together they raised four sons, Karol, Jay, Nicholas and Michael.
Dennis served for many years as the wrestling coach at Woodward, and Barb was always by his side, supporting the team by providing homemade meals at tournaments, and she became a beloved presence at wrestling events.
Throughout her life, Barb was deeply involved in her community. She was known as “the coach’s wife” and repaired countless items as the “town seamstress.”
Barb also served in many volunteer and professional roles. She was a Cub Scout volunteer in Woodward and leader of the Des Moines Junior Homemakers 4-H Club. Barb was a member of the Iowa State Extension Council and was a 4-H Hall of Fame inductee.
For 15 years she was a residential treatment worker at the Woodward Resource Center. She later worked in the Woodward-Granger Community School District as a special education teacher in the Grandwood building.
Barb is survived by her four sons, Karol Field of Minburn, Jay (Kiki) Field of Las Vegas, Nick (Betty) Field of Aimwell, Louisiana, and Mike (Amanda) Field of Mound, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Alyana, Wyatt, Ava, Jaxon, Austin, Zavier, Anicka, Izah, Karmyn, Fynlee, Harper, Beckett, Grayson, Sarah and Cassidy; her brother, Mike (Vicky) Katcher of Marble Rock, Iowa; sister, Nancy Traux of College Station, Texas; and sister-in-law, Nancy Fish of Nashua, Iowa; along with many other relatives; and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Irene Katcher; her husband, Dennis “Coach” Field; two infant sisters; and her brother, Dennis Katcher.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family and will be designated in Barb’s name at a later time.
My sincerest condolences to the boys and their families. Barb was always pleasant to talk with and passed no judgement. A great lady.
