Bernard “Bernie” Blakeman, 66, of Boone passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, surrounded by his family in Boone, Iowa.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Sept. 3 at 9 a.m. at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Linden, Iowa.
Bernard ” Bernie ” James Blakeman was born Dec. 9, 1955, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Frank Mason and Mary (Conlon) Blakeman.
He graduated from Valley High School with the class of 1974 and then attended a technical institute in West Des Moines, studying electronic systems.
Bernie was united in marriage to Cindy Heinz in Dawson, Iowa, on April 30, 1988.
He worked at Per Mar Security for more than 30 years.
Bernie was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, reading books, long chats over a cup of coffee and spending time with his kids and family.
Bernie especially loved being a grandpa.
In death he rejoins his parents, Frank and Mary Blakeman; a sister, Ann Marie Blakeman; a brother, Christopher Blakeman; and a daughter-in-law, Charity Blakeman.
Left to cherish Bernie’s memory are his children, Melinda Blakeman, Luke Blakeman and Elizabeth Blakeman; granddaughter, Nara Blakeman; siblings, Tim (Roberta) Blakeman, Mary (Steve) Heckman, Margaret (Don) Burke and Amy (Scott) Groenenboom.
