Bicyclists beyond number packed downtown Perry Saturday morning at the start of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce’s 45th annual Bike Ride to Rippey, better known as BRR.

Breakfast was served by the Hotel Pattee, and the St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus held their annual raffle of a new bicycle. Numerous events are being held in Perry, Rippey and along the route both there and back again.

BRR co-founder Dennis Hurley of Beaverdale was on hand for the 45th annual ride, and his son, Jim Hurley of Ames, welcomed riders with a few words before the start of the 20-mile circuit.

The Chamber of Commerce predicted thousands of riders would participate in the annual event, the Chamber’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

  1. What does numbers beyond mean? Beyond what numbers? Does this mean no one knows what the numbers were? Not trying to put down the ride. Just seems like an odd way to talk about how many riders they had.

    • “Bicyclists beyond number” was merely our odd way of saying that there were more bicyclists than we could conveniently count. The Chamber of Commerce typically releases an “official” count sometime after the event. Whether anyone knows what the numbers were is unknown to us. We only know that we do not know.
